Early on in this profile writing guide we mentioned that one of the key reasons we write profiles is to level the playing field for all candidates that are undergoing Endeavor’s selection process. Writing high-quality standardized documents for every candidate, regardless of industry or market, helps us achieve this goal. However, the profile must also recognize that each market has its nuances, and that each candidate is different. Consequently, the profile has to leave space for the writer to convey and explain these market and candidate specificities. The local context section of the Endeavor profile is a writer’s opportunity to educate Panelists about everything they need to know about the local ecosystem and the candidate’s role in it.

The purpose of the local context section of the Endeavor profile is to give the writer an opportunity to inform Panelists about any noteworthy insights that haven’t yet been covered throughout all of the other sections in the profile. These insights are typically related to (a) the entrepreneur, (b) the market, (c) the Endeavor office, or (d) the selection journey. However, the questions in this section have purposefully been built to be ample and open-ended, thus allowing the writer to have the freedom to include any relevant information that can provide insights into a wide array of different topics and specific circumstances.

❌ What makes a BAD Local Context section?

• The section is vague, not specific - when you mention that the entrepreneur has a ‘give-back mentality’, this doesn’t tell panelists much, back this statement up with a concrete example
• The section is trying to over-sell, this will make panelists believe you’re subjective and they will lose confidence in the objectivity of the information in the profile
• The section is repetitive, not additive - this section is not meant to be a summary / reiteration of what is already in the profile, it is meant to provide additional context to panelists on the founder, the market, the selection journey etc.
• The section is long for the sake of being long, if you don’t have anything to say (which will rarely be the case), don’t add words for the sake of it - be cognizant of the information you include here and make sure it is relevant and additive
